College Admissions - Diversity

The Trump administration will encourage the nation’s school superintendents and college presidents to adopt race-blind admissions standards, abandoning an Obama administration policy that called on universities to consider race as a factor in diversifying their campuses, Trump administration officials said.

The reversal would restore the policy set during President George W. Bush’s administration, when officials told schools that it “strongly encourages the use of race-neutral methods” for admitting students to college.

Diversity in schools should be strongly encouraged. The admission process of some colleges make it difficult for non-whites to get admitted in the university they prefer, despite having high grades. The qualifications for entering a university should be based on mental capability, not the color of skin. With so much bigotry and racism going around today, it is important more than ever to expose young adults to different races and cultures. This is one of the effective ways to teach them that all human beings are the same - the color of our blood is red and we experience the same things as the next person.
